An entrepreneur’s complete guide to making it big while keeping things small

Small business specialist Elaine Pofeldt offers her blueprint for getting a running start with your microbusiness—that is, a business with no more than four employees, including yourself. Following her previous book, The Million-Dollar, One-Person Business, Pofeldt shows listeners the steps toward their next entrepreneurial venture, including testing an idea’s market viability while limiting risk, finding cash without giving up control, protecting your personal time and avoiding burn out, and knowing when it is time to start micro-scaling.

Pofeldt’s focus is always on staying lean financially and avoiding entanglements with employees, investors, or partners wherever possible so that you maintain your personal goals and identity. In this book, Pofeldt profiles nearly sixty microbusinesses who have all reached $1 million in annual revenue without losing control or selling out. Tiny Business, Big Money also includes the results of a survey with the founders of fifty seven-figure microbusinesses that got to $1 million with no payroll or very small teams, which provides deeper visibility into their shared principles of success that you can apply to your own small business.

Great book on how to create successful microbusinesses!
I had previously read Elaine Pofeldt’s earlier book, The Million-Dollar, One-Person Business, so I was pretty sure I’d like this book – and I did! This book focuses more on microbusinesses that have a few employees or use contractors. Elaine interviewed over 50 businesses for the book and offers helpful information on the tools they use to run successful businesses with just a small team. She also shows which industries offer the best revenue and profit potential (such as e-commerce, high-end professional and personal service businesses, wholesaling, etc.). In addition, she shares the 5 basic models microbusinesses use: 1. The automated approach. 2. The freelancer/contractor model. 3. The outsourced model. 4. The traditional employer model. 5. The partnership model. One of the things I like best about this book (and Elaine’s prior book) is that she offers very specific advice and gives great examples and resources. There’s nothing generic in her books. For instance, in this book, she includes an appendix with the top 200 businesses classified by industry with fewer than 5 employees, etc.I really enjoyed this book and hope she’ll also write a new edition of The Million-Dollar, One-Person Business – possibly focusing on using AI to run a successful one-person business or microbusiness!

Great Book for the Modern Business Owner!
Tiny Business, Big Money is well-researched and uses interesting real-life stories to help folks create a high revenue-producing small company. Elaine Pofeldt’s main idea is that bigger is not necessarily better and you can run a very lean company that makes lots of money. In particular, Kathy Goughenour’s story stands out, starting with corporate workplace discrimination, and leading her to 7-figure success doing what she loves to do. I highly recommend you read this fantastic book!

Very dry – I picked up the book because of her conversation with Joanna Penn
I frequently listen to Joanna’s podcast, and the author seemed very smart about business. I picked up the book because it seemed that she had a lot of great stuff to say. I put it back down because she said it in the driest way possible.

Make your dream business a reality!
This book is truly a masterpiece. Every page had me interested and learning new things about building my business. This book quite literally made my dreams come true, the business I always wanted, the business that was always just out of reach, was made possible by this book. I recommended this to so many of my close friends, and they too now have their own businesses. This book helped me overcome student debt, and also my own doubts, it allowed me to safely, and sustainably start and keep a business. I recommend this book to anyone wanting to start a small business.

    Fantastic, Inspiring Book
I love all of Elaine Pofeldt’s books. They never disappoint. In Tiny Business/Big Money, she’s gifted us another great read–her book is filled with fun and immediately actionable strategies for unlocking the full potential of your business.I’m planning to re-read it annually, as a “go-to” source for my own entrepreneurial inspiration.I cannot recommend Tiny Business/Big Money more highly.

Don’t say this isn’t for you!
More than just another book about other people’s dreams come true, Pofeldt shows you how to craft your own. And perhaps just as valuable as the strategies for how to build your ideal business is the underlying philosophy of WHY: because “many of us don’t realize how draining it is to suppress dreams of what we want.” Wouldn’t that precious energy be so much better spent living the kind of lifestyle that only you can create for yourself? If you’re willing to roll up your sleeves, seriously fulfilling and financially rewarding work might be closer than you think. This book could change the trajectory of your whole life.

First my apologies because the choice of 1 star is not for the content by itself, which for what I started to read is great, but for the formatting.Accents are not supported, so a simple phrase with “she’s” become “she’s” and it’s the same with any words or phrases that contain an accent – so at one point, it become difficult to read.I stopped at chapter 2…and asked for a refund.Pity because I enjoyed this first chapters and wanted to read more.Maybe I will buy the paperback version but it will be great if the author make the necessary change to get the right formatting.—–D’abord mes excuses car 1 étoile n’est pas pour le contenu en lui-même, qui pour ce que j’ai commencé à lire est super, mais pour la mise en forme.
