“A single source for what you need to know to put your financial house in order, an impressive piece of work, and very useful.”
—Bob Clark, Editor-in-Chief, Dow Jones Investment Advisor

Ric Edelman, America’s most successful financial advisor, has revised and updated his classic personal finance bestseller to reflect the new global economic outlook. In his 4th edition of The Truth About Money, Edelman tells you everything you need to know about money—an essential, yet delightfully breezy and accessible, must-read manual for anyone who may have previously sought the financial wisdom of Suze Orman and Jean Chatzky. The Truth About Money is an indispensible guide to money matters from the man whom Barrons named the #1 independent financial advisor in the country.

It Really is Everything You Need to Know about Money
This book was amazing when I finally had the time to read it. It is not only informative, but Ric Edelman teaches you in a very entertaining way. He often guesses at what you would probably do or think about a certain situation, then tells you why you are wrong. He has stories to back the information and explains just about everything you will need to know about getting out of debt, investing, maintaining cash reserves and he addresses these things (and others) by your personal situation, married, single, widowed, divorced, old, young, retired, working, and with grown children living at home! Can’t begin at touching on all he shares, but it is worth it whether you think you know it all or not. Get another perspective and do yourself a big favor! It was written in 2016 or 17 so there may be changes in some areas, but the basics are explained well.

    Highly recommend it.
The Truth About Money is an easy read that provides insight on money matters that we all should know about but most likely didn’t learn in school. I have either recommended or given the book to colleagues as a must-read manual for their better understanding of personal finance.

Much more enjoyable that you would expect a finance book to be.
I picked up Ric’s book “The Truth About Retirement Plans and IRAs” at the library on a whim, having never previously heard of him. I was prepared for the book to be trash. It was in fact so far from trash, that I borrowed every book of his that was available from my library (sorry Ric) and then bought this one to keep on the shelf as a reference. These books have actually changed my life, in that I took a good look at my retirement planning, increased my contributions, and moved as much money as possible out of expensive mutual funds and into ETFs as advocated in the book. And what are ETF’s? Well i didn’t know either. Read the book! Ric’s writing style is playful, amusing and entirely accessible. This particular book “The Truth About Money” covers much of the breadth of various areas of financial planning. If you want a shorter book, look at his other more targeted offerings.

    An investor “must have” reference
This is the fourth edition to a very popular book Ric Edelman wrote years ago that won a lot of awards. He has updated it and added a few hundred pages with this re-release on Dec. 21, 2010. It is almost 700 pages of teaching from a very smart Financial Advisor and the amazon price is about 40% off the retail price of $19.95 you’d pay at a book store. I’ve listened to several financial people on radio and television over the last 25 years and it is my opinion this man is a very smart advisor and has investing down right. He is an excellent educator (I’ve paid money to hear him speak at a seminar) and listened to him for several years on the radio. He formulates a good argument for hiring a fee based advisor (his firm manages over 5 billion dollars) rather than taking advise from a person trying to sell you an investment product they make commission on. Ric’s no nonsense approach to investing works and I would consider him to be as smart on money management as anyone i’ve ever heard. For just over 11 dollars you get a wonderful reference and education on financial matters you would not otherwise think of. I highly recommend the companion book “The Lies about money” which is outstanding and explains his investment philosophy into ETF’s (exchange traded funds) and the benefits of them. To get this kind of advise this cheap, consider this book to be a bargain reference read that you cannot help but learn a lot from.

Everyone ought to be taught these concepts in middle or high school. You must start now!
I’m nearing retirement. Like oh so many people “I wish I had known these ideas and started aggressively saving when I was much younger”! You will never be younger than you are now, so start now! There is no shortcut. Start your loved ones off now on the right path. No kid likes to listen to old Dad talk about saving for retirement – don’t let that stop you. If you love them – teach them! This book (and others from Ric) are invaluable and can really lead to wealth – not in the short run, but will assure success in the long run which no other path really can. And even if you are more than half-way to retirement, the ideas Ric presents can make your future brighter!Go to a fee-based independent financial adviser today, regardless of your financial condition. They can only help make things better. Be honest with yourself – don’t let embarrassment stand in your way! Go! You’ll be glad you did.And read all of Ric’s books. Compared to the improvement in your financial condition that will result by following the ideas he presents, these books are a wonderful bargain.

Good sense, comprehensive, intended to help
I found Ric Edelman’s, The Truth About Money to be VERY helpful.Let me preface my remarks by admitting that I’ve spent my life in the financial industry in a testing & research capacity – NOT sales. My background is pretty solid so I am fairly critical of financial books. Here is what I like about Ric’s presentation for you to judge potential value to you:1) Comprehensive – many/most topics you might need to know about.2) Objective – the facts as most consumer-oriented financial professionals would present.3) Easy to read – my opinion is he presents information in a very easy to digest format, right for non-financial types.I’ve listened to him on the radio in the Boston area often and he/his team present straight forward, consumer-oriented information there as well. I give him strong kudos as not many books are as thorough and well-presented as this one.I would recommend to nearly anyone.PS – I was a bit intimidated by the length when I did my own Amazon review prior to buying as it is long. Don’t worry, the short chapter format is really EASY to pick-up and read in tidbits.
