Everyone thinks my husband is dead. Just like we planned…
Eleven years ago, my husband disappeared. Eleven long hard years I waited, my heart breaking for our son, who didn’t know his father was coming back.
Today, my hands shake as I try to understand what I’ve just learned: my husband has a new wife. This wasn’t part of our plan.
Eleven years ago, my husband made a terrible mistake. I sacrificed everything to help him fix it. But now he’s put our son and me in danger again.
We had a plan. He broke the rules. But who will pay the price?

Lots of twists!
I loved this one with all its twists and turns in the story and the characters. Their lives were constantly going through changes. Ms Slater is a good writer and I like to read anything she puts out.

Good Book
This was a good book. I have some books on my Kindle by this author but never read them. After this book I will be reading them.

Readable but Putdownable
This is the first time I have read any of the authorâs works. The book is okay, readable with mediocre characters and an unimaginative plot. It huffs and puffs along through various scenarios which I really tried to care about but mostly didnât. I will probably ready more from this author because the book could have been a fluke and perhaps the next one I will love.

Kept Me Guessing!!
The Married Man is a riveting story of secrets, lies, and the devastating impact of betrayal. The plot centers on a seemingly perfect marriage that begins to unravel when buried truths come to light. As the protagonist delves deeper into her husbandâs hidden past, she finds herself questioning everything she thought she knew about the man she loves.
The story is full of unexpected twists that keep the reader guessing at every turn. Just when you think youâve figured it out, another revelation shifts your perspective entirely. The pacing is impeccable, building tension gradually until it crescendos into a shocking and satisfying climax.
What makes The Married Man truly stand out is its emotional depth. Beyond the mystery and suspense, the novel explores themes of trust, loyalty, and the lengths people will go to protect their secrets. The characters feel real and relatable, their struggles resonating long after the final page.
If youâre looking for a thriller thatâs as emotionally gripping as it is unpredictable, The Married Man is a must-read. Itâs a story that will stay with you, challenging your perceptions of love, marriage, and the dark corners of human nature.

Good not great
There were so many characters & details it was pretty impossible to guess the actual ending. It wasnât her best work but I still love this author. One detail that is bugging me is âwhat the neighbor sawâ that the retired detective told Brewster about. Unless I missed it, it doesnât look like that detail ever gets explained and that annoys me. Anyone who happened to catch it please share!

Complex
Most complex mystery I’ve ever read! Fortunately it is all explained well, particularly at the end. Couldn’t begin to figure this one out !

This is my review of The Married Man.
Livâs husband, Rich disappeared eleven years ago, after taking their three-year-old son, Maddox to the park to fly his kite. Now eleven years later he was presumed dead. Liv had waited these long hard years, her heart breaking for their son, who didnât know his father was coming back.
But now Liv learns that her husband has a new wife. This wasnât part of their plan.
Her husband made a terrible mistake and she had sacrificed everything to help him fix it. But now heâs put her son and her in danger again.
He had broken the rules and gone against their plan. But Liv and Rich are both hiding a secret.
The story is told from different POVâs in different time frames that gives us more depth into the intention of the main key players.
This is a well-written fast-paced novel with intense descriptions that heighten the suspense level, and give depth to the characters. The tension builds slowly with twists and turns to a satisfactory conclusion. This suspenseful thriller that kept me hooked until the very endâ¦and an ending I didnât see coming. A great read!
Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and Netgalley for my digital copy.

A very good read, I really enjoyed it.

I enjoyed this book but had some issues with it. It jumps around in time a lot and the characters know only certain things in certain timelines, so the reader needs to keep up and remember who knew what when. Some things seemed strange⦠like why the first person narrative at the beginning seemed to have the main character so concerned about her husbandâs whereabouts, only to have the reader learn shortly after that she actually knew all along where he wasâ¦? But, having said that, it was a cool concept, a good addictive read just to see how it all shakes out in the end. Thatâs why 4 stars despite the chaos and occasional confusion! ð

The Married Man tells the story of Liv, a single mum whose husband went missing 11 years ago. There’s also Cait, who thinks her own husband is hiding big secrets from her. Liv’s husband Rich has been declared dead, but only she knows the truth – or does she? As the two women meet and their worlds collide, their secrets might be even bigger than they realised…
I’ve read and listened to quite a few K. L. Slater books now and The Married Man is up there with my favourites. It’s not as formulaic as some of her others and while I saw some of the twists coming, as a whole it keeps you guessing as new layers of the story keep unravelling. It has a surprisingly emotional ending too, which was nice.
Although she has flaws, I found myself rooting for Liv, and while I sometimes wanted to grab hold of her teenage son Maddox and tell him to stop being stupid (haha!) he’s ultimately likeable and believable too. As for Cait, her story is perhaps the most interesting, and as the two women become connected with each other, you’ll be turning the pages quicker and quicker to find out just what is going on.
Once again this is an easy to read, very digestible story from Slater which I thoroughly enjoyed. Claire Corbett does a wonderful job narrating the audiobook and is perhaps the main reason why I enjoy listening to K. L. Slater’s books so much. If you’ve read any of her others, pick this one up – you won’t be disappointed. And if you haven’t? She’s the perfect author for fans of crime, thriller and mystery that never get too heavy or violent.

Un peu moins bon que les autres Slater, mais un bon moment de lecture quand même;
