Great read
The book encompasses every topic that could possibly come up with raising adult children. It really covers the gamut. It is an insightful read with great tips on how to cultivate a loving and strong relationship with your adult child as they go through the various transitions in their lives, as well as your own transitions as a parent. As a parent who recently became an empty nester, it was a fun and informative read. I am a life and success coach for teens and young adults so I also read it through the lens of a coach who works with young people. I think this book would also benefit parents who have teens who are in high school. Kids mature so much faster these days so I feel a lot of the techniques and guidance the author discussed would be beneficial for nurturing the relationship between parents and teens before they even get to adulthood.
I really enjoyed the unique topic of this book. The guidance and easy action steps to create more connection with my adult child are invaluable.

Great Information
I Loved this book. There is a lot of good information and Karen uses her humor, love for her family and her own experiences for a more down to earth approach to navigating relationships with our adult children. There is something we can all learn and benefit from in this book, no matter how old your children are.
A great idea would be to give this as a gift to parents when their children leave home or go to college. I wish I would have had a copy of it then. That’s when we began to notice the difference in our son. The dismissive attitude and change toward us. Having this information could have made a difference back then. It is well worth the read !

Great job! Great work! Great read!
What a great idea!
Who knew someone would write a guidebook to cover relating to our children once rheyve grown past the “cute” stage.
Karen Carlson does an amazing job weaving the many facets of an adult parent/child relationship into an easy to read map. You can go to the places you want, need know you need but don’t want to know all when you are ready to “go there”.

I loved it…. and wish my mother had read it.
I loved reading this book, as my “child” is 20, and this feels like such uncharted territory. Throughout her childhood, all “seasons” felt pretty similar to what my friends of similar aged children were in, and we were able to pass advice back and forth.
But as they grow and diverge into adulthood, our children have taken such different paths that the *advice* is less one-size-fits-all. This book really helped me to feel less like I was on an island and gave me some really great talking points when growing deeper in my relationship with my daughter.
By the end of it, I was glad I’d read it… and it really struck me how much I wish my mother had when I was newly adult. <3

Not real
I really wanted to like this book but itâs just a lot of fluff with no real examples. I felt like I just kept reading the same thing over and over in every chapter. Respect each other, create boundaries and have open ended communication. Be a good listener. There you donât have to buy the book.

Peacefully Parenting Adult Children by Karen M Carlson is a game-changer for any parent stepping into the complex and often uncharted waters of parenting adult children. This book takes what feels like a delicate balancing act and provides clear, actionable strategies to not just survive, but thrive in this evolving relationship.
Carlsonâs approach is both heartfelt and practical, weaving her own experiences with valuable insights that resonate deeply. Whether it’s learning to set boundaries that respect both parties, fostering open communication, or navigating tricky financial conversations, she covers it all with grace and wisdom. She doesn’t shy away from the tough stuffâlike handling lifeâs inevitable challengesâbut she does so with a reassuring tone that empowers you to cultivate a resilient bond with your adult children.
What I loved most is how this book acknowledges the personal growth that parents themselves undergo in this phase of life. It’s not just about managing your childâs transition into adulthood; itâs about embracing your own transformation, too. Carlson strikes the perfect balance between empathy and practicality, making this guide a treasure for anyone looking to strengthen their connection with their adult children.
Full Disclosure: I read an advance copy provided to me by the author, but this has in no way influenced my high opinion of the book. In fact, I liked it so much I bought a copy too!
