Understanding child health and wellness through a holistic lens.

Complementing his book for professionals, here Scott Shannon equips parents and caregivers with a better way to understand the mental health challenges their children face, including how cutting-edge scientific concepts like epigenetics and neuroplasticity mean new hope for overcoming them. Readers learn how the most common stressors in kids―inadequate nutrition, unaddressed trauma, learning problems, family relationships, and more―are often at the root of behavioral and emotional issues, and what steps can be taken to restore health and wholeness, without immediately turning to medication. 2 illustrations

Extremely helpful for kids with ANY kind of behavior disorders and mood symptoms! Rx medications do not address the root cause
I found this book EXCELLENT and extremely helpful for parents with kids suffering with ANY kind of behavior or mood symptoms and disorders! Dr. Shannon discusses the details behind numerous strategies that each of which, on their own, could completely reverse your child’s symptoms (i.e. diet, supplements, deficiencies, sleep, exercise, TV/electronics, art, water, Vitamin D levels, sun light exposure and SAD, fresh air, relationships with parents and friends, type of therapy, and many others). His wide variety of case study examples of his patients who suffered with mood or behavior issues is extremely helpful and encouraging as you can see exactly which strategies worked best in each situation. I’ve been studying nutrition and holistic health and wellness for 20 years, and it’s extremely rare to read a book from a Medical Doctor who is SPOT ON about every topic he writes about when it comes to anything outside what he has learned in medical school. The ONLY thing I would say he should have included in his book is an advanced bioindividual nutrition strategy for brain health involving reducing natural and artificial Salicylates and Amines in food for extreme mood, temper, and aggression. Anyhow, Dr. Shannon impressed me while speaking on an online summit about children’s health, so I picked up his book only to be even more impressed with his research and expertise outlined. I will be quoting various sections of his book while teaching!

A brilliant, much-needed book that celebrates the diversity of our children (and the plasticity of the young brain) by refusing to label the young among us who may be sensitive, or inadequately cared for, or simply misunderstood. Dr. Shannon is an advocate for the inherent wellness of our children. We need his message.

    The title says it all!
Refreshingly practical on a rather high level and a wonderful forerunner to the Mental Health for the Whole Child by the same author. A wonderful asset for parents and all in the ‘child industry’, including teachers and parents – many of whom are also parents, of course. Medicos. please have a read.
