Am I getting parenting right? Most parents, at any and every stage, find themselves asking this question.
Whether you’re sleep deprived with a colicky newborn or navigating the emotional roller coaster of a teenager, parenting has its ups and downs, its confusion and clarity, its big blowups and small victories. And no matter our family makeup or our children’s personalities, many of us experience anxiety over our children’s futures and often fear making a mistake.
Andy and Sandra Stanley are no strangers to this feeling. As parents of three grown children and cofounders of North Point Ministries, they are seasoned experts on faith and parenting. Together they have spent decades counseling countless families, mentoring others, and learning from mentors of their own, all while leading one of the largest churches in the country.
In Parenting: Getting It Right, Andy and Sandra combine their experience and wisdom into a guide that helps readers understand and live by essential parenting principles. In an inviting, conversational approach that is both informative and accessible, the Stanleys help readers understand the most important goal in parenting and learn the steps to pursue it by:
Learning the four distinct stages of parenting
Clarifying the primary goal of parenting and developing a parenting orientation around that goal
Identifying and adapting their approach–not their rules–to their children’s distinct personalities
Deciding on their shortlist of non-negotiables and learning to stick to it
You don’t have to constantly doubt if you’re getting it right as a parent. Start here and feel confident about raising a healthy and happy family.

I loved this book! In fact, I highlighted notes on every page. At times, I felt like it was so personal that I was reading the Stanleys’ journal. The stories are relatable, the principles amazing. No matter the age of your kids, this is the book to read this year.

Best Christian parenting book
This book is incredible. It was a fan favorite in my MOPS small group. The message is valuable, itâs easy to read, and gives practical advice. Highly recommend for a small group or just a study on your own!

the BEST
How I wish Andy & Sandra had written this about 25 years ago when I was the one coming home from the hospital with a tiny bundle in hand. Fortunately for us, we heard many of these stories and concepts attending his church over the years. If parents want one thing to get right, âitâ is the relationship oriented model of parenting. Through self-effacing stories, the Stanleys share practical wisdom on how to prioritize your relationship with your children over the things we normally parent toward. Wisdom for any age.

The best parenting book Iâve ever read
When one of my favorite leadership authors and speakers joined with his wife to release a book on parenting I couldnât wait to get my hands on a copy and read it.
I wasnât disappointed.
As the mother and stepmother to 5 daughters Iâve read more than my share of parenting books and this one is by far my favorite because of the central focus on relationship.
The book is easy to consume without being remedial and gave me plenty to think about. If you are a follower of Andy Stanley, some of the principles and lessons in the book will sound familiar. Unsurprisingly, much of the discussion in this book is applicable outside of the parenting relationship.
I am currently leading a group of parents through the available videos and small group guide that accompanies the book and neither disappoint.

Another winner
I have loved all of Andy’s book and this one was no different. I usually prefer Kindle/physical books, but get this one on audible. He and Sandra narrate it themselves and it feels like one of his sermons. The presentation is easy to follow, understand, and an easy, yet powerful read/listen. Some parts might be hard to swallow, but we all should want to be the best parents we can be. He focuses on relationships are the priority and it’s easy to think that it makes sense, but in trying situations, we can act in ways that damage the relationship because of trauma, ego, pride, or various other things.
I sent this to most of my mom friends.

The Stanley’s communicate with humility, humour and conviction. This is by far the best and most practical parenting book I’ve ever read. I know I will refer to this book many times in the parenting years ahead!

I have enjoyed reading this book and have ordered for more copies to share with friends . First this book should have come out earlier but am still grateful that I read it and I will be able to parent with the relationship in mind
Kristen Dawn –
As a mom of five, this book is brilliance on paper when it comes to practical, applicable advice for parents. As the authors so clearly state, you don’t have to take their discovery of “it” as yours, but this book will definitely cause you to think hard and long about what exactly your “it” should be!
Fun of amazing examples of parenting – both the good and the ugly – it is a resource from which every parent will be able to both relate and glean oodles of wisdom. Thank you, Andy and Sandra for such an amazing resource of wisdom!
Tim Tribble –
This book is incredible, although I would highly recommend you get the bible study guide that accompanies it.
Such great insight into next generation parenting.
