Excellent – strongly recommend
-I am into photography for more than 20 years, focusing on photography equipment, and photography knowledge.-To me, it is very important that my 10 year old daughter has some basic knowledge and understanding of photography. The more she knows about photography (image composition) and the equipment (camera), the better her pictures will be.-I am pleasantly surprised how well the book is structured, and how simple everything is explained; especially for children. In a few, well chosen words technical terms are explained. The chapters are not lengthy, and are precise at the same time.-Even the history of photography is captured, on two pages, so the history does not become boring, and the child can remember the few milestones. Camera features are also included, and even the basic lens construction.Well done.

Too detailed for young kids
This was way too detailed for the 10yr old that I bought this for. However, its a great start for a middle or high schooler who truly has an interest in the art of photography, depth of field, etc. Great pictures and easy to read. Just not for a kid who just wants to play around and take pictures of anything and everything for fun.

This book is great for a child to follow. Easy to read, with colorful pictures and descriptions. I brought this for my friends 10yr old and she loves it. She was given a small point and shoot for Christmas. A great easy to learn book for a child without any boring subtexts.

Perfect gift for budding photographer
My 12 yr old granddaughter will begin a photography class this coming school year. She’s just starting to be interested in photography, so I looked for a magazine that would be beneficial to beginners, as well as to children. Knowing the excellent reputation that National Geographic has, I decided to buy this one and she absolutely loved it. She has actually followed some of the tips from the professional photographers who contributed to the content, and has taken some awesome photos this summer in practice for her upcoming class. Great gift for the budding photographer!

Very impressed with this book.I bought this book for my 12 year old nephew who is very into photography. I was looking for a book that would be suitable for his age, but NOT childish or patronising. When the book arrived I had a good flip through and was very pleased I had chosen this particular title. It covers a lot of ground. Any budding photographer, of any age, would end up with a good, practical knowledge after reading this. It includes lots of technical stuff – but written in an easy to digest way.I rather wish I had had this book when I was studying photography as part of my degree!
