One of the BEST book series of books for kids I have ever come across!
One of the BEST book series of books for kids I have ever come across! The graphic novel style helps kids build confidence in their ability to read larger books and Lauren Tarshis’s creative storytelling is both informative and inspirational. My 4th grader can’t get enough of these books!

We LOVE the I Survived books!
The whole “I Survived” series by Lauren Tarshis is awesome. Be it the chapter books or graphic novels, they are informative and engaging. My son discovered that “I Survived” had branched out into graphic novels while browsing in the library. He recently asked to add the chapter books and graphic novels to his Christmas and/or birthday list. (What?! You want books?! We’re more than happy to purchase the books and add them to your wishlist! Ha!). I haven’t read this one since it’s newly published and I’m waiting to read it with my son after he opens it for Christmas, but….The stories are typically told from the vantage of a child living through the event. One thing I appreciate is that the author doesn’t automatically jump to the event. Instead she builds up the background of the main character(s) so that it drives home that these are ordinary, relatable people. I also appreciate that she tells the stories in a kid-friendly way without totally sanitizing the scariness of the situations that these kids faced. The pages are thick and the binding seems like it will hold up well to multiple readings. The illustrations and text are crisp and detailed. Since I homeschool, I tend to track the reading levels of my son’s books. According to the Renaissance Accelerated Reader Bookfinder, the “I Survived” Graphic Novels are in the 2nd to 3rd grade AR reading level. This book has not been rated yet. (As of November 4, 2022)(Note: If you read the chapter books, you may wonder how they compare to the graphic novels. The Grizzlies and Shark Attack chapter/graphic novels are all on a third grade reading level. The 9/11 graphic novel has a third grade AR level, but the chapter book has a 4th grade AR level. The Nazi Invasion graphic novel has a 3rd grade AR level, but the chapter book has a 5th grade AR level.)

I chose this rating because I have 2 kittens and if I experienced it I would have stayed in New Orleans, my kittens are my pride and joy and I could never go without them, thankfully I wasn’t born yet .
