What will you do to promote multilingual learners’ equity?

Our nation’s moment of reckoning with the deficit view of multilingual learners has arrived. The COVID-19 pandemic has further exposed and exacerbated long-standing inequities that stand in the way of MLs’ access to effective instruction. Recent events have also caused us to reflect on our place as educators within the intersection of race and language. In this innovative book, Sydney Snyder and Diane Staehr Fenner share practical, replicable ways you can draw from students’ strengths and promote multilingual learners′ success within and beyond your own classroom walls.

In this book you’ll find

• Practical and printable, research-based tools that guide you on how to implement culturally responsive teaching in your context
• Case studies and reflection exercises to help identify implicit bias in your work and mitigate deficit-based thinking
• Authentic classroom video clips in each chapter to show you what culturally responsive teaching actually looks like in practice
• Hand-drawn sketch note graphics that spotlight key concepts, reinforce central themes, and engage you with eye-catching and memorable illustrations

Be careful- Corwin is selling review copies!
I received this book in August. The content is great. However, the published copy I received is a review copy. The paper quality and printing is grayscale and appears to be a review copy. Several of my colleagues versions are full color. This is the 3rd text from Corwin I’ve purchased this year that is like that.Update: The author connected with me and was able to provide me with a copy of the book straight from the publisher. I now have the same version /copy as my colleagues, full color. I’d order the book and connect with the publisher is you have the same issue as I did. This book is really good; I’ve used it to support conversations around assets and to drive meaningful adjustments for gen Ed and specialists teachers. A book with content I keep coming back to.

Move this one to the top of your must-have reading list!
This is an incredible resource for ALL educators who are committed to diversity, inclusion, equity, and acceptance. We all know how important this is, but how do you incorporate this into your day-to-day work? What I love about this book is that it is practical to the max. It’s filled with videos that demonstrate culturally responsive techniques, sketch notes that highlight key points, case studies that are highly relatable, and exercises throughout for reflection and application. It’s jam-packed with tools that you can immediately use. Definitely worth the price and more.

    Arrived Damaged
Great book, but arrived damaged due to damaged packaging. I wish they would pack the books better because they’re not worth getting on Amazon when they arrive damaged.

THE go-to source for teachers of MLs looking to be more culturally responsive
I highly recommend this book if you are interested in learning about culturally responsive teaching, particularly for multilinguals. Here’s what I appreciate about the book:- researched based- written in a teacher-friendly voice- LOTS of practical ideas and strategies for teachers and admins- a personal touch by adding stories of students, teachers, and districts- the tables, graphic organizers, reflection activities add an extra layer of supportI see the book in two parts:- Part 1: explanation of CRT: the what and the why- Part 2: implementing CRT in our schools: the howPart 2 is particularly helpful because it comprises of several chapters. Each chapter taking one principle of CRT at a time and showing teachers examples and ideas of how to do it.Bottom Line: Diane and Sydney always produce such wonderful work. This book is no exception! I think this is a go-to source for teachers who want to be more culturally responsive in their instruction for MLs

    Same old, same old
The book talks about nothing new. Especially if you are an ESOL Teacher ,there is nothing new.

I love this book SO MUCH that I have VOLUNTEERED to lead my school during team collaboration time this year! This book has “look fors” for each principle of culturally responsive teaching so I can see where I am at and set goals for where I would like to go.
